Other Kings ... Other stories...
a collaboration with Cyrus Samii.
The project adopts the visual language of Ferdawsi's Shahnameh for explorations of further narratives in Iran's more recent past. Our understandings of the heroic are re-framed, from 'Nasser al Din Shah outshining the sun', to 'Taj al Saltaneh riding a bike'. Informed by both the Shahnameh and Western travelogues, the entire project consists of 24 episodes, of which 6 were installed at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (April-September 2022- extended to October 24, 2022) as shown in the PDF included below.
The homonymous installation at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston was curated by Laura Weinstein, Coomaraswamy Curator of South Asian and Islamic Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
